Runescape broken pickaxe plz answer?

when i was mining rune essense i found the head of a broken mithril pickaxe and was wondering. you can repair these right? so if i broke my bronze pick i could use its handle and the mithril head and repair it to get a free mithril pick right? just wondering
also, thinking about dpsklsd’s answer, when steam/smoke comes out of the rock will it destroy or break yur pick, will it split it into head & handle?

yes i think you could but it would take awhile to break a pickax
